Who We Are
The Interfaith Council of Citrus County is a group comprised of various faiths, who believe in the need for communication among persons of all religions.
In the fall of 1989, a group of clergy and members of various religious groups in Citrus County which included Rabbi Morris Raab and Irv Gish of Congregation Beth Shalom; Rev. John Denmark of the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa; Father James Hoge of the Central Catholic School in Lecanto; Rev. Richard Ribble of the lst Presbyterian Church of Crystal River and Ruth Thorpe of the Baha'i Community of Citrus County met informally. This group felt the need for greater understanding among our many faiths. Out of this meeting came the Interfaith Council of Citrus County.
What We Do
Our events, open to all, include programs such as the Thanksgiving Service in November, World Religion Day (co-sponsored with The Baha'i Community of Citrus County) in January and Musicals.
Other open meetings feature guest speakers who offer insights on issues concerning our religious and social lives. From these forums we find what we have in common, where we differ and what we can learn from each other. Through our meetings, forums and celebrations, we learn the ways of others.
While each of us is strongly committed to our own faith, we celebrate the religious diversity found in our county. Our goal is to achieve greater understanding and acceptance of each other.
